The residence is located just off Black Prince Road which use to home a pub owned by Charlie Chaplin’s Uncle, The Queen’s Head Pub. This pub, now café, is well-known and loved for its food and friendly service in a setting from a bygone age. Just be sure you have cash on you, as it literally lives by its era and does not take anything plastic!
No doubt the Queens Head will ensure you return a couple of times a week, so to avoid piling on those extra pounds then pay a visit to the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens which is located next door to the residence. In a concrete jungle, it is nice to have such a large space of greenery that use to be part art gallery, part fashion show and part brothel which defined London’s nightlife during the 18th and 19th centuries. Now you will find many events arranged at the Gardens ranging from Tea Party’s to Light Shows – either way it is always worth checking out what is on!
You will also find the Charlie Chaplin walk, which essentially you could explore yourself by just walking down Kennington Road which is a short walk away. Whilst Charlie Chaplin was born just off Walworth Road, he spent most of his childhood moving from flat to flat on Kennington Road. Whilst nowadays you will find an array of grand houses homed by arty and media types, back when Chaplin was a young child it was quite a different setting with squalid flats and rooming houses.
Be sure to stop into the Three Stags opposite the Imperial War Museum. It was, and still is one of the busiest pubs in Kennington and was a regular joint of Chaplin’s alcoholic father. Now it is a friendly gastropub with great food, ample seating with an upstairs area that can be used for private functions! Be sure to try the pizza’s which are made to order on a wood fire – you will not be in the least bit disappointed!
This residence has a collection of stylish en-suite rooms which come equipped with their own private bathroom, study area, small double bed and plenty of personal space for storage. You would then have access to a large shared kitchen where you can make the most of meeting your fellow flatmates amongst food!
The residence is not short of social/communal areas. The fantastic residence team tends to keep the resident’s busy with a fully packed social calendar of events which are held in their huge common room which comes complete with table tennis, pool tables, table football and an iconic tube carriage! If your life is too consumed however by University life and studies, then you can always just get your head down in the quiet study room which is accessible 24/7; not only that, but you can also find a seminar room with a projector which is available for booking for just yourself or group study.
Not only do you have all of the social/study areas, but this residence also comes packed with an on-site gym which is solely for resident’s use (and of course all included in the cost of your rent). More importantly, though, this residence was the first to boast a swimming pool! Yes, you read that right. Feel free to access the swimming pool in this residence which is exclusive to you, but inclusive in your rent!
With all of these luxuries within your residence, do not feel like your safety is at all compromised or neglected. The residence comes with 24/7 CCTV across the building, along with a reception team who is replaced in the evening with security – so there is always someone present on site during all hours of the day! Not only that, but should you bring your bicycle with you, rest assure that there is a safe and secure area for you to store your bike whilst you rest at night!
